Math We are about to begin Lesson 3( Week 3 ) in Math using addition and subtraction concepts. We have taken a diagnostics test of skills on IReady and we are working at our own level in that part of Math. I hope at the inservice on next Monday I learn how to share that with you. At this time we are not using IReady at home in second grade. Each day part of Math is done in a group and filled out in one math book. Then we have an independent practice time to show our learning. That is the page that will be coming home to you. Each week will have a Parent Letter with activities for you to do at home to help your student and for you to also check for understanding.
Homework Each night your child should be reading at the very least 15 minutes and working on the math from the Parent Letter. There will be times that an extra page is sent home or an oral assignment is given to check for listening skills.

Writing
The focus in writing for the next few weeks is gathering ideas for topics and sticking to the topic. We will be adding details to our writing to tell more and make a better picture for our readers. Included in this will be writing a complete sentence with words in the correct order. Labeling what is the naming part of the sentence and what is the telling part.
